"Andrew has been riding for the stable for
past 9 years and has won approaching 200 winners for us.
Obviously the biggest win was the 1998 Gold Cup on 'Cool
Dawn' and he nearly won it again on Sir Rembrandt in 2004
when only beaten by 1/2 length by 'Best Mate'.
Andrew is a
great asset to the stable especially in the schooling of
young chasers. Although nobody wants to win more than Andrew
he always looks after the horses and doesn't knock them
about. He has had a brilliant start for us this season
winning 3 races from 5 rides."
Robert Alner, Trainer
worked in the event management and hospitality for some 30
years, specialising particularly in horse racing days for a
number of high profile commercial clients, it was a pleasure
for me to meet up with Andrew Thornton some 3 years ago at
In that time I have watched him grow in confidence and
expertise as part of our “scene setting” sessions for guests
during the preamble to a days racing.
Andrew has that knack of translating the technicalities of
racing to mainly lay audiences in simple and easily
understood terms. He is knowledgeable and immensely
personable to all types of race-goer – and as one of the
select band of very top national hunt jockeys, commands
instant respect and attention from his audience.
Also I have found Andrew to be an excellent and reliable
communicator, and if he chooses it, I feel sure that a long
and successful career in some form of racing PR awaits him
and he finally hangs up his racing boots."
